Why I Invented SINGINGCoach
I always loved music, whether it was listening to records, singing along to show tunes and my favorite hit rock songs, or learning to play an instrument. Despite great enthusiasm, various music teachers were consistent about delivering the bad news: I didn’t have a good ear, and in fact I could not, for the life of me, carry a tune. No more proof was needed than the fact that I couldn’t tune my guitar no matter how hard I tried or how intently I listened. That was in the 70’s.
In the 80’s the electronic guitar tuner made its debut and people like me didn’t have to ask their teacher or friend to tune their guitar any more. That’s when it occurred to me that if pitch analysis could be done for the guitar, perhaps it could also be done for the voice. That question would have to wait to be answered while I finished business school, started a career, and got married.
When my three children came along, I felt the strong desire to sing them lullabies and, once again, I was reminded of being pitch challenged. As it happened, that’s when I had some extra time, some extra money, and the desire to answer my question from 20 years previous. In January of 2000 I found the programming team that I have been working with ever since, and work began on our first software product, Carry-a-Tune at the time.
Three years later, in 2003, the beta testing was done and Carry-a-Tune hit the market. In 2004, we renamed the program SINGINGCoach and began selling the disc based version through big box retail stores and an infomercial.
Now SINGINGCoach is used across the country and around the world. I hope you join our community and sing, sing, sing!
